PREVENTING CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING • Service all heating systems and all gas-, oil- or coal-burning appliances by a technician annually. • Install a battery-operated and electric-powered carbon monoxide detector in your home and check or replace the battery when you change the time on your clocks each spring and fall. If the detector sounds, leave your home immediately and call 911. • Contact a doctor if you believe you have carbon monoxide poisoning. • Do not use gas-powered devices such as a generator, grill or stove inside your home, basement or near a near a window or door. Generators should be operated more than 15 feet from the home. • Do not run any gas-powered motor inside a closed structure, such as a garage. • Do not heat a home with a gas oven. The 3rd District covers the great states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Pursuant to the constitution and by-laws of the International Association of Fire Fighters [IAFF], a majority of IAFF local unions located in any one state, province or federal installation may submit a proposal to charter a state or provincial association or joint council. In 1979 several IAFF Locals throughout the State of Maine submitted a Charter to the IAFF for approval. Since that time the Professional Fire Fighters [PFFM] of Maine have been representing the interests of Professional Fire Fighters, Fire Officers, Paramedics, Inspectors and Dispatchers throughout the state through direct servicingn and our legislative and/or policital action programs. Today 28 IAFF Affiliates are members of the PFFM and we represent nearly 1,000 IAFF members in Maine. In addition to the PFFM, the other states located in the IAFF's 3rd District also have chartered State Orginaztions. They too are on the front lines representing the interets of the IAFF members within their respective states. Below are the links to their websites for your review and information. I encourage all of you to visit their sites as well as ours... Progress Through Unity!
